About

Positioning Statement

As a Greek-Romanian multidisciplinary artist and researcher who resides in the Netherlands, I could say there are many backgrounds informing my practice and research. I am mostly investigating the notions of home(less), collectivity and memory. There is a drastic loss of home, however, I believe even if lost, the physical and the non-physical space of it still interacts with people’s psyche. I feel there is an urgency to investigate home as a collective concept and wish for my practice and research if not to just raise awareness, to also create space for reconfiguring the ideas of home. My research question comes down to: is there a way to create collective homes in the public sphere, even if they are temporary or nomadic?

My background of constant moving, as well as the demolition of my childhood home are incidents that deeply inform my practice. It is also important that the place I grew up had the constant threat of fire either due to ecological factors or due to foul play. The fact that I grew up closely to my twin sister and experienced most of my early years with her, is the reason I believe that collectively we can reconfigure home in ways we wouldn’t be able to individually.

My practice often has an activist approach. Collectivity comes as a research methodology where that translates into installations which incluse painting, video and photography. I create environments while sometimes my work includes audio. I am learning through making and making through learning while both feed each other constantly.
